As the start of the season draws closer for the New Orleans Pelicans, There is still much discussion about what the future holds for Brandon Ingram.

This offseason, Ingram has been one of the most talked about players in trade rumors. Ingram is set to become a free agent soon, and the Pelicans haven’t shown much interest in offering him a massive contract.

While many thought Ingram might be traded by New Orleans, the Pelicans actually got aggressive in the trade market and brought in Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks.

The trio of Ingram, Murray and Zion Williamson is very interesting, as all three are talented on an individual level. However, as we saw with Ingram and Williamson, they don’t complement each other much offensively.

If things don’t work out with all three, New Orleans could certainly consider the option of parting ways with Ingram.

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report recently spoke about the San Antonio Spurs being a good candidate for Ingram in a potential trade.

“Given that Victor Wembanyama is on his rookie deal and Devin Vassell signed for less than the max, San Antonio might even be able to justify slightly overpaying Ingram for the next two or three years (though convincing himself of a max could still be difficult).”

“And if there’s an organization and coaching staff that might finally be able to leverage Ingram’s physicality for a really good defense, it might be San Antonio.”

The Spurs would certainly be an interesting spot for Ingram, as the franchise looks to pair a star with Victor Wembanyama. As we saw in his rookie season, the sky is the limit for Wembanyama, and he could be the best player in the league in a few years at this rate.

Pairing Ingram with Wembanyama would give the Spurs considerable length, as Wembanyama is already arguably the best shot-blocker in the league. Ingram’s size on the wing also makes him an excellent defender.

However, like in New Orleans, it may be the offensive end that is the problem. Ingram is better with the ball in his hands and is not very efficient moving on the ground. While he is talented, that limits his partners on the court.

While his fit with the offense may not be ideal, Ingram would be a huge upgrade for the Spurs as a player capable of averaging over 20 points per game. If things don’t go well for the Pelicans early in the season, the Spurs have the resources to make a trade if they feel it makes sense.
