Michael Porter Jr. had a great career with the Denver Nuggets, but Trae Young knows he could have been even better without his brutal back injury.
Michael Porter Jr. suffered a back injury in high school that got progressively worse. He underwent surgery in college, which limited his freshman year at Missouri to just three games. Porter Jr. was still a high first-round pick, falling to the Denver Nuggets at No. 14, but Trae Young knows he could have been much better without his injury.
Young spoke about Michael Porter Jr. on P-show Podcast with Paul George, where he revealed he was present at the practice where Porter Jr. suffered his back injury.
“I was at practice where he hurt his back,” Young said. “I was with him a week ago and we still talk about it and the difference in his game. He would have been a different [Paul George]He’s very gifted offensively and he’s so fluid in his game. He was a very good defender in high school, but he could have been even better at this level if his back hadn’t been so stiff and he had those screws and stuff messed up in his back. It’s just unfortunate, he would have been a very, very high level player and fortunately he’s still had a good career so far.”
Porter Jr. has managed to overcome his back issues and make a career with the Nuggets. He played 62 games in the 2022-23 season and 81 games last season, proving that he has become a durable option for the Nuggets.
