THE The Philadelphia 76ers probably made the best move of the offseason when they acquired Paul George to be placed alongside stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. But Golden State Warriors center Draymond Green hope George is ready for what’s to come Sixers fans in Philadelphia are about to go on a rampage if he fails to do so.
Philadelphia is considered one of the toughest teams to play at home due to their vocal fans. They are extremely passionate and want their teams to succeed, accepting nothing less than the best.
Draymond Green issues warning to Paul George against Philly
Paul George signed a four-year, $212 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers this summer. The move means George, who used to see Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors four times a year, will now see them only twice.
Ahead of Thursday night’s matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, Draymond Green sat down with NFL reporter Jordan Schultz for an interview, where he issued a warning to George about leaving for Philadelphia.
“Good luck Paul George,” Draymond Green said. “Oh, he better play well or they’re going to crush Paul George if he doesn’t play well, oh my God. You know why they’re going to crush Paul George if he doesn’t play well out there? Because they already have a bad taste in their mouth from the last three (wingers) they’ve had. With Tobias Harris. They never felt like he brought what he needed to bring, that’s why.”
When the Sixers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies (21-41) without Ja Morant and Desmond Bane earlier this year, Sixers fans leave their team hear all about it.
“But you know what the problem is with Philly?” the Warriors star continued. “Philly fans are harder on their own team than they are on the other team. Like Philly killed their own players. Guys come in and they’re so focused on crushing their players that they don’t really kill you when you go to Philly like that. Like they crush their own players. That’s the problem. It’s hard to last there.”
Over the years, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have been two players who have really been able to hear the local fans. Both have struggled with consistency, injuries and accountability during their time in Philadelphia, proving that there is little patience in the Northeast.
Paul George is going to be a major upgrade for the 76ers over Tobias Harris, especially in the playoffs when defensive shooting and creative playmaking are needed. That being said, George has also struggled with consistency, injuries, and owning up to his shortcomings over the years.
